Our Fabrics & Environmental Considerations
Our sun shirts are a blend of organic bamboo and recycled polyester material that are rated UPF 30+. In order to reduce our environmental impact, we use fabrics that are organic, recycled and choose manufacturers that use a closed loop production system. We contracted with a U.S. based third party UPF fabric lab to ensure that our fabrics are UPF 30+. You can download the UPF fabric report below.
From the raw bamboo material to the yarn, the yarn manufacturer uses a closed loop system. A closed loop system uses waste from the production process to create new products, eliminating all waste. From the yarn to bamboo fabric, we use environmentally friendly reactive dyes to color the bamboo fabric along with adding dimethicone to make the fabric soft and achieve a better shape.
Our recycled polyester is 100% recycled post-consumer polyester, using the Global Recycled Standard ("GRS"). GRS is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled input, chain of custody, social and environmental practices, and chemical restrictions. The primary goal of the GRS is to increase use of recycled materials in products and reduce the harmful social, environmental, and chemical impacts of production.
